| I'm not sure I could have done this without this forum. I know it's not great, or perfect...but I'm not a professional, just a mom on a limited budget.
I've still got one step to add off the patio, and a paver courtyard left to do... but thanks to everyone who posts here that gave me the insane idea that I could do this by myself... (well with the help of 3 kids who carried the heavy stuff for me!)
As I said...LOTS left to do.... |

| sieblonde, that is one beautiful wall! What a wonderful addition to your yard. How long have you been working on this project? I can well appreciate the hours of labor put into this; and congratulations also to the three kids who helped you. Every time you look at that wall from now on you will smile with satisfaction knowing you created it. There's just something special about doing the work yourselves. I hope you'll show us more pics as the work progresses! Karen |

| Hi everyone, thank you for the compliments. That wall took 4 weekends. It should have taken 2, but I kinda ended up face up in the dirt when my back decided that shoveling and lifting cinder blocks wasn't a good idea anymore. That meant I had to rely on teenagers to help. uh huh,,, like they'd actually do anything while I was at work during the day.. not. I have to order more pavers, and gravel/sand... but afterwards, I'll post more pics of the 'paver/courtyard/ walkway' that I'm putting there too, if anyone wants to see it. It will be made with those 16' square pavers with moss or something planted between them.....Well theoretically at least, that's the plan... Who knows what it will look like when I get done with it. |

| Beautiful work! Is it dry-stacked or mortared? Can tell that the cap stones are mortared but hard to see below that... Are there cinder blocks behind the stone? I've wanted to make a low stone wall in my yard for ages, thanks for setting an example and paving the way ! |

| It's both dry stacked and mortared. I began with cement blocks two high, mortared, then stacked the stone in front of it. Then I poured mortar in between the cement wall and rock wall for stability. Just a little mortar bled thru to the rock face that I need to clean up. The flagstone on top is mortared..which I need to clean up too. *le sigh*. I have tons of stone left over and that just means more trouble in the making.... |
