Full sun plants to be planted in fieldstone retaining wall?

I had a 30" h fieldstone retaining wall put in and left most of the mortar out on the top, and some in the front, with the hopes of getting something to grow in between the stones. The landscape theme is tropical. I am zone 10, mostly full sun, and the sprinklers will hit a fair portion 2x a week. Any recommendations? I plan to use chicken wire and moss to hold the soil in place, unless there is a better alternative. All ideas welcome at this point.

The smaller sedum are nice and soapwort... do you mind plants that would hang/trail? Perhaps Black-eyed Susan "Vine" (I think I have the Latin for that one listed on my trade list to clarify better), morning glories (especially Japanese MG's and MGs could be planted at the base of the wall and climb up - plus they can self-sow and in your climate, you stand a really good chance of them being "extended" annuals), ivy (those that tolerate full sun) always look awesome against/on stone walls in my opinion... I know there's a "recipe" for taking existing moss and making it into a "paste" and "painting" it on (hrmm reminds me of a Chia pet hehe) and you could likely find a moss that grooved on full sun... Miniature luffa has a delicate vine and much smaller fruits than standard luffa and has dainty little yellow blooms....

I wonder what plant "forms" you prefer though and what colours - foliage and/or blooms... that would help to narrow down some choice selections for you.

Hopefully you can avoid using chicken wire and get things in place without it... it can be a pain to get out once plants are established....

Hermit, thank you for the recommendations. The miniature luffa and soapwort sound like good candidates. I might try some armeria on the top too. In another forum someone recommended using black or brown stockings to hold soil, with a hole cut for the plant. I am going to try that method, maybe adding some water retention product. I have several sedum that I bought at the beginning of spring that are definitely going in. I guess I am afraid of frying everything. I will make a trip to the California Cactus Center and see what they have to offer as well. I am thinking about trying some aroids and bromeliads in some of the pockets in the east facing part of the wall.
