plastic or weed cloth for river rock?

| I am placing river rock in a dirt area around a large palm tree. The border of the rock will be grass. Very small weeds and grass seedlings pop up in the dirt often. Will plastic liner suffice? Or should I use a weed cloth under the 2-4" river rocks.
Thanks. |

| What a great forum.......nobody replies. I'll be sure to post to this forum for all of my landscaping needs. I'm sure by the time I have re-landscaped my entire front yard, somebody might actually reply to one of my questions. |

| I would think weed cloth and maybe some layers of cardboard. I put weed cloth by itself in my greenhouse and the weeks still came up through it. I would think with plastic the water that accumulates in there could collect bugs/mosquitos? I think where we live in Florida the weeds would come up through kryptonite. |
