 o
grass in rock border

I have a rock border separating our lawn from a garden. I get grass between the rocks so it does not look good. Before I put the rocks in I put plastic underneath. Does anyone have ideas on how to keep the grass out?

I don't understand how the grass gets through the plastic but you could try. Using flat thin stone as a base and putting your other stone on top staggered over the joints in the bottom layer. Or as I did in some beds is lay flagstone down under the stone 12 x 18 " pieces letting the edge stick out further than the top stone about 4-6" into the lawn a real easy trim job with the moxwe no weed wacking needed. Butt the stone tight underneath and no grass will ever come through. Mowing is a snap!

Maybe it's a creeping type of grass that gets into it. That's what I have and it just spreads on top of the ground and puts roots down as it goes, so nothing I do will stop it, short of a solid wall a foot higher than the lawn. So determine whether yours is coming in from the side or underneath.

I use roundup then cedar multch then the stones.

I live on 6 acres of rock. From small boulder size to river rock size. An arroya runs on the back side of the property. Consequently, all my planting beds are edged with rock. The only way I've been able to keep the weeds out of the rock borders is to use weed killer. Roundup works best but if you want to go green there are things recommended to replace the Roundup. I do know that weed eating doesn't work. I have an invasive type of grass that sends out runners that burrow under the ground. You would have to dig to China to get all the runners. If I keep the weeds out of the borders and at least 3 inches outside it, I don't get the grass coming up in the beds. The easiest way to do this is to use weed killer.
