 o
Solid Granite Patio???

I have the opportunity to get a 12'x12'x2' piece of solid finished granite for the cost of moving it (about $1500, but cheaper than some other options). It was originally cut to be an industrial surface plate, but I think it would be a nice piece for landscaping.

I would use it as a patio area. We've been planning on constructing one using retaining wall blocks, backfill, and pavers. Our yard has a slope, so we need 18 - 24" of height to make the patio relatively level. The 12'x12' are is pretty much what we had planned.

How would the solid granite fare in the long haul? What sort of bed or footings would be needed underneath to minimize frost heave? Or would the 25 tons of stone pretty much take care of itself indefinitely?

Thanks for any comments and advice you can provide.

Reese

RE: Solid Granite Patio???

It is not doubt that granite is strong material. When you finish this, you could consider to use granite cobblestone(4" x 4" x 4") for the floor covering of patio.

Here is a link that might be useful: granite paver
