actually, if you go to the home decorating forum and search for concrete acid stain, you'll get great advice and links from one girl who does it on a serious level... pics of her work are amazing- enough so that I'm trying it next spring :)

actually staining concrete is not that hard, and you dont have to spend a fortune on cement stain or acid stains , if your plaining on doing this your self for a bench or stones, leaf castings, hypertufa projects , well anything i have tried so far with wood stain, it has worked for me, i recently bought some green stain (quart size for $7.99). they have a cement stain that is not to bad of price for a gallon , i believe it is called mason's , it costs about $22.00. i have always shellaced over my stain so that it appears shiny, i think for water proofing you would need to seal it , they have all that stuff at OSH's , Home depot, etc. i stained the banana leaf casting in this pic then shellaced it , just an example for you
