Weekend workshops for stonework?

Does anybody know of any weekend or weeklong workshops which train people in stoneworking methods? It seems to me I have read about such opportunities somewhere. I would be interested in any training opportunities in stone cutting, wallmaking, all aspects of stonework.

I KNOW that most such training comes from doing, and I have done a fair amount already (with a broken finger to show for it). But I would love to have the chance to work with some real pros. If anybody knows of anything like this, I'd love to try it.

I think there was a post that discussed this earlier with a link to a web site. There is a guy that gives stone claees, week long in I believe Virginia.

Well I learned a few things, so I will share them

The Dry Stone Conservancy, in KY, offers 2 day intro workshops in dry stack techniques, open to the general public, and occasional more advanced workshops. This organization is independent I think but does a lot of govt National Pk svc restoration and new projects. Looks like a good organization.

The Stone Foundation offers a twice yearly magazine featuring stone projects, and offers a week long workshop in stone techniques, with an international faculty. Looks like a good organization too, I joined, and plan to attend their workshop next year.

David Reed, a well known stonemason in NC, offers full day workshops a couple times a year in Asheville NC through the NC Arboretum.

All of these can be found by using a standard search engine and the titles of the organizations above.

When you do your search, don't forget to look up Charles McRaven. He has written a couple of great books on building with stone and offers workshops, as well.
