Shaling Flagstone?

CEFreeman

I think that's the term.

All you Gurus of Stone, what can be done?

I have a lot of flagstone. 1" to 3" thick. However, some of the pieces are flaking. Big, card-stock-thick sheets. It's not like it's falling apart, so I don't want to exaggerate, but it's peeling. Some of the opposite or back sides are not, and a few are.

My questions are,
Is there a point where the peeling will stop and I should just be patient through it?
Is there something I could put on this after the flakes are off? Some kind of sealer?
Or, should I just deal with it as a state of affairs?
Or write this off and trash it?

Thanks very much!
