Need to tuckpoint new bluestone porch?

Posted by mtwads IL-5 (My Page) on

Installed a new porch this past summer: rectangular cut full-range bluestone over newly poured concrete. Bluestone was set in mortar. The stone has not been fully tuckpointed-- should it be?

Spacing varies from ~less than 1/4 inch to ~1/16 inch. If I mix/apply mortar will need very fine mix in order to be able to tuckpoint some joints. TIA for any/all replies!

Did you do the work or pay someone?

What do you mean by "fully" tuckpointed? Half was done?

Is there anything in the joints? Or just empty?

Problem with empty is that water will get in there this winter and you will have freeze-thaw cycles which will eventually lead to cracks and/or stone separating from concrete.
