Need advice on path way and sitting area

Here is my back yard that I have been working since last spring. I want to place a path way along the backside of the pool it slopes. There's not much grass along the backside due to shade and weeds taking over. My DH and I are getting up in our years I I know that it will be harder and harder for us to mow this area. It is already hard for me due to athirst. I have plans on planting plants in the whole area with a path way. Please keep in mind that I and doing most of the work all on my own and cannot left more then 20 LB's but even that is hard to do and can only last for a short period before having to take a break from back pain. I was wondering how mulch would work with stones on the border?

Here I want to make a sitting area. I have fencing up now even with the house I plan to have vines growing up on the fence and the other side of the fence dog's can have their area when we have company over. What can I use here?

Mulching out unwanted grass has been a good solution for us. This garden area was once a hard to mow grassy slope , now requiring very little maintainence. You could go with container plants for color and variety. Good luck. EP
