Terrible forums!

Why does this website use such antiquated forum software? It's nearly impossible to keep track of messages. Please switch to a real forum software like phpBB.

Maybe you would be willing to provide the software and server space, and pay for hosting.

Actually, I think the comment is entirely legitimate, and I agree with the original post. This threaded style of message board is very old and clumbsy, and I really wish the operators would upgrade.

This board is very popular, and the number of ads that the owners are selling must certainly be justified by traffic that the advertisers feel justifies placement of their ads. So I doubt that lack of traffic or revenues would be the determining factor of whether the board should be upgraded.

Also, www.phpbb.com (assuming that was the board of choice) is free, so that's not a big deal.

The main issue that would hinder a transfer to better software would be the archived posts. To launch the new board would be fairly easy. But moving all the old posts into the database would probably big deal.

Another alternative would be to lock all the old boards so they are available for archival research, and encourage everyone to post in the new board.

And yes, upgraded software would really make participating in this site a better experience.

BTW, yes, I am a professional web developer. My above comments are based on significant experience.

Why don't you post your question and suggestions on the suggestions forum where it might get an answer from someone who has the authority to change the problem areas you're speaking of? Who on the greenhouse forum would be able to address your complaint(s)?

With the exception of the ads, I actually like the way the forums are laid out.--I've found this website to be one of the easiest for me to navigate within, and I've visited a lot of different forums.

RE: Terrible forums!

I am brand new here (today) and I was actually glad to see this thread. I am a member of quite a few forums and this is the most difficult one I have ever been on. Hard to find anything and hard to follow. One of the ones I am most active on is hosted by vBulletin and I find it one of the easiest to navigate.
