looking for options for heating my small 6x8 portable greenhouse. I dont have the room in the house for the plants so I would like to get them outside once the sprout but I know it can still get cool at night in mar and apr when I want to use the GH. what are some thoughts on good heat sources will a radiator heater work?

a small electric heater should do it. i guess thats what you mean by a radiator heater?

Portable?

If you bury heat tape and put row cover on the plants within the greenhouse, you'll probably get the most protection for the least heat. Or you could put jugs of warm water in there.

I don't understand your set-up though. What will work depends on what you've got.

I have a little larger greenhouse (12x20), heated by two heat lamps and a small 110v space heater. I set the heater by the dial on top (trail and error to find the right spot), the heat lamps, I plug in when the temp is going below 40. The temp was at 45 inside while the outside was 22 a couple of weeks ago. On space heater, make sure it is a manual one, not digital (it will lose it setting if power goes off). Power bill, I have not noticed the difference between this year and last.

I am very happy with the little electric heater I use. 6 by 8 GH. It is about 1 foot square and has a fan. 1200 watt or 750 watt. I have all ways used the 750 watt setting. BUT, the built in thermostat is very hard to set. I bought a good thermostat with easy plugins from E-bay.
In the summer, the thermostat gets changed over to run the swamp cooler, so I figure it was worth it.

check into getting free manure from surrounding areas. Most horse farms, (horse manure is the best heat source) will give it free...it's a win win situation..then you can compost it with your leaves, grass clippings, wood chips, hay and use it in your garden. Just remember it needs 120 days before you can use it.
