That is awesome! I have enjoyed watching both of your HFGH videos.

How and why did you modify the greenhouse doors?

Interesting. Thank you for the data at the end. You'll likely find that spinach and greens will do fairly well altho from that temp profile you don't have enough direct sun (your first graph lacked labels to indicate lux or fc or whatever was the metric, but it is apparent there isn't enough light). Your tank shouldn't freeze and the fish will come back and be rambunctious in the spring. Looks like a fun time experimenting and I'm envious.

Just wondering how you test the nutrient solution to be sure that it is correct for the plants. I have a few things growing here in NH in greenhouse Hydro systems. The growth is very slow with night temps at 50 and daytime sunny temps about 60+. Do you use a monitoring system for the nutrient solution...? Thanks for what ever info you can supply..!

I do monitor the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels to make sure they are at the right levels. I usually take a test sampling every few weeks. If they are too low, I can either remove some of the plants or increase the feedings If they are too high, reduce the feedings or change out some of the water. After awhile, you can get a feel for how to control each thing.

If a picture is worth 1000 words, a video is worth 1000 pictures. Well done. My next day off, I'm doing a GH video tour and uploading to Youtube. I'll show off my lychees. ;-)

Really like your setup, I wish I could find that kind of room in our 10x12 HFGH. I was admiring your new doors and was wondering how much strenght they added to the front wall. We just had some serious wind blow through today and I could actually watch the front wall flexing alot more than I feel comfortable with, in fact it bent the top of the sliding door jam enough to really make it hard to move the doors. My big question is whether you tied the new door structure into the ground or did you just frame out the existing opening? They really look like a great mod! thanks for ther input.

The door frame is just around the inside of the metal frame so it doesn't really add any additional support.

However, check through some of the eariler postings in my blog . You'll find couple of pictures where I took some 1/2" electrical conduit and ran it from a side wall stud to the rafters. From that point I ran another conduit to the other side, creating a tie rod to support the roof for snow loads. From the center point of the tie rod I ran one other to the roof peak.

This photo shows the connections. Starting at the top right, is the connector from the peak to the center of the tie rod, which connects into the rafter, then the diagonal brace to the side wall.

It made a HUGE difference in the structure. Harbor freight should put this in all their greenhouses!

PS Check out some of the other videos on my channel on youtube....there's a bunch of different greenhouse videos in there! ;-)
