I've found that normal windows (not sun rooms or bay windows) tend to be part-sun at best, even in summer. Foliage plants (like herbs) will grow alright, but anything with a fruit needs more sun.

I'm growing citrus in front of a south facing slider. They're flushing right now. There's also an Aji Lemon pepper plant next to them, and its been fruiting all winter.

I'm further south than you guys, so results may be a little different, but its definitely worth a try.

It's unlikely that you'd get enough light for veggies indoors, I'm sorry to say. Veggie plants grown in windowsills get real leggy as they reach for the light. I've tried seedlings indoors and it only works with supplemental lighting.
