| Just brainstorming on GH ideas. Don't have one yet, but would like to build one. FWIW, this is my second attempt, I tried back in '05 at my old house...thankfully I didn't, as I had to relocate to Maryland from Ohio.
Anyway, a lean-to is one possibility, but I'm also exploring more space and a freestanding...I really like the Cape Cod style from Cross Country.
Questions:
1. If I request it from BC Greenhouses, can they put fivewall polycarb on part and twinwall on south roof slope and south wall? The idea would be to improve insulation but not cut light down as much.
2. How would I calculate the R-value in this case? What about accounting for the door, ventilation fans and shutters? These portions will be far less well insulated than the R-value of the polycarb itself. However, I plan to build about a 30-inch kneewall that will be as well insulated as a house complete with insulation in it, which will improve the R-value there. How would I determine it overall for heating calculations? |
