Building a little plant cathedral

I'd sure like to have one of these bigger greenhouses seen in here,but I have limited space and money right now.I found the plans for this University of Tennessee design and decided to build it.

This picture is what it presently looks like.All that it basically needs is one door attached,top vents above the doors put on and plastic film.I learned something about plywood.It's best to select pieces that are knot free as possible.The ribs are one quarter inch and some cracked at the knots when flexed.It shouldn't affect things though,because it's doubled.I was going to use wood for the base,but I went to a home and garden show and one greenhouse maker is using Trex decking and so I was able to get some scratch and dent stuff at a lumber yard for a dollar a foot.The original plans were for a nine by twelve,but like I said,space is limited,so this one is eight by ten. That is super cute! Nice work - I especially like how you've been so resourceful to get to where you want to be without spending a fortune. Scoring the Trex material for cheap is a great move! I used it to edge the beds in my GH and I almost shed a tear when they rung me up because it is so expensive! But it holds up great in these wet settings, so it's a smart use of a durable material.

Anyway, the design is very attractive and I hope it brings you years of pleasure!

Thanks Karin.Here it is today.I am thinking of using crushed gravel on the floor and extending that about two feet around the perimeter.I've read about using wood chips also.Are there any future problems with that? Thanks,Brady

Very nice! As for the wood chips as a flooring material, I'd be concerned about mold growing when the floor got wet from watering and condensation. Gravel is the way to go unless you can afford concrete, which can be bleached.

Looks nice, good use of materials.

One question, did you use plastic from the hardware store or did you buy 4 year greenhouse grade plastic? It looks like hardware store plastic. The problem is it doesn't have a UV inhibitor and will break down, turn brittle and rip, tear and fall apart in 3 to 6 months. Speaking from experience here.

I originally bought hardware plastic but used it for another project.The covering used for this is 6 MIL IR/AC made by Sunmaster that came from Farmtek.I recommend them.Look under their Steals and Deals section in the Greenhouse Film Remnants area for the best prices. Brady
