The war on drugs has me kinda worried!

I have read so many stories about police raiding homes with grow lights. Which most of the time, at least as reported, they were growing pot.

I'm sure that some didn't make the news, because the raid turned out to be plain old veggies!

I use extra lighting, mostly in the spring for my transplants. This year I'm doing some fall/winter stuff. I have dedicated a room just for this. The lights are visible from the road and will be on after dark.

If they break down my door in the middle of the night with no warning there will be a gunfight! I will loose even if I win the gunfight! LOL

Any one here ever been raided?

The police sometimes review utility records looking for people whose bills have skyrocketed inexplicably, since high energy use is one indicator of a grow operation. Unless you are planning to use dozens to hundreds of grow lights, I doubt you have much to be concerned about from the police. If it were me, I'd be more worried about attracting attention from idiots driving by who might think you have a grow operation. A couple of black plastic yard waste bags stapled to the window frames in this room should take care of any issues.

A year or two ago...I had a red light (LED) in the window on my tomatoes.
Knock on the door about 8:0clock PM. Local police man and man from drug..
""Can we come in?
""What are you growing?
No big problem..I think it happens quire often Now don't get all up tight and cause problems.

The first year living in my house I had my (veggie, herb and flower- nothing elicit) seedlings growing by my best south facing window and had flourescent grow lights for supplemental light. Unfortunately, said window is 15 feet from a busy sidewalk and close to a road as well... Closer to spring I was out pulling dandelions in my front yard like an old grandpa (I'm only in my late 20's) and a neighbor lady from the down the street pulls up and warns me that she heard her son and his delinquent idiot friends talking about how I had "pot growing in my house" and that I should be careful because some of the kids in the neighborhood "werent good kids and would break in to steal it if they thought pot was growing in someone's house!" Luckily, it was almost time to bring everything outside, but I was furious! Would I really be that stupid to grow pot in a window easily visible from the sidewalk and street?!? Needless to say, I have moved my "grow operation" downstairs, completely blacked out the window in the room with black styrofoam and duct tape and no longer tempt the little fecal-heads...

Perhaps unrelated a few months later some fecal-heads went on a vandalizing spree in the neighborhood and subsequently shot the window near the sidewalk with BB's. I filed a police report and told the cop about the lady warning me as a sidenote. I told him the same thing "would I really be stupid enough to grow pot in a window visible to the neighbors? He replied "You'd be surprised how stupid people are..." I told him I was planning on moving my "grow operation" downstairs and he just chuckled and said it probably was best to keep it out of sight.

Funny story! People are that stupid, as the officer said. I have saw huge pot plants growing on some former neighbors screened in porch! I guess they thought that the screen disguised them!

I had an officer interrogate me about the potted cleome plants I took to farmer's market. He was insistant and probably would have confiscated me AND my plants had I not been laughing so hard tears were running down my cheeks. I used to light up my greenhouses in September with thousands of watts to hold off my poinsettia crops from initiating bloom too soon. I used to get a lot of helicopter fly-overs and I always wondered about that, but nobody, to my knowledge ever personally checked it out. But they looked like large, glowing sausages from dusk to Midnight. LOL

Thats a funny story calliope! I'd plant more cleomes, but I'm too worried the kids in the neighborhood will start stealing them and smoking them...

You should try hibiscus cannibus. I grew it one year just for fun in the greenhouse. It looks really authentic before it starts blooming.

That's Kenaf Sandy. I've never grown that but think it would be funny too. It's a scene straight out of Cheech & Chong as Sargent Stadenko & co try to figure out the flowers! lol
