Life span of passive solar water barrels

For those who have used black plastic barrels many years for passive solar greenhouse heat, how long have/did the barrels last/lasted? What problems have they had, if any? I am wanting to compare them to the possibility of steel water tanks (with rust preventive measures). Thanks for any input!

I'm using black 50 gal barrels for rainwater collection. All get partial sun. They have lasted 10 yrs and will probably last much more. In a greenhouse protected from UV by the greenhouse covering I'd expect them to last as long as most high quality greenhouses, 30-50 yrs.
