Light hanging question

Hey guys new to this green house forum. I have several old compact fluorescent aquarium light fixtures and was wondering if anyone had some good ideas on how I could hang them? On the fist tank they simply rested on the glass. I would like to mount them to the bottom of a cabinet above my seed starting area. One is 4ft long and is somewhat heavy, 20-25lbs the others are pretty light and easy to manage. Any experience would be appreciated:)

Do they have a slot on the ends of the tops? If so, you can stick a S hook in it, then attach a chain to the S hook.

This is handy for seedlings because you can raise the lights easily as the plants grow.

Not answering your hanging question.

Aquarium bulbs may be too blue for seedlings.

It has a clear plastic bottom (to keep the salt water out), I guess I could take that off and maybe get really large s hooks. There are a couple of slots on the side, but they have a fan installed in to keep the bulbs from over heating....

As to the blue- Im a complete newbie on this. I have two bright white lights, 2 combo and 2 blue. I never figured it would be an issue the corals in my salt tank loved them! Is there an exisiting thread that you could point me to? Or do you care to elaborate?

Thanks again!

RE: Light hanging question

I'm a past fresh water and salt water aquarium hobbyist - quit some time ago due to the maintenance . . . tough to travel and leave the tank tending to family / friends.

AFAIK however, the fluorescent tubes I used induced very rapid growth of the varied natural water plants I chose to grow in my controlled aqua-environments. Why would they not be appropriate to land-plant usage? But if not, simply use the fixtures, but replace the tubes. Attachment is just a matter of mechanics - use some ingenuity.

Use the two bright white bulbs, and buy two warm-white bulbs to mix. Don't waste money and buy so called "Grow bulbs"

Rapid vegetative growth (leggy growth) is not a desirable quality in seedlings. You want strong sturdy ones.

Just thought Id update. I dont know why I was so stumped with this one. I just got one of those adjustable shelves (closet maid) mounted it to the wall and set the lights on the wire shelf... Now its time to look into the correct bulbs to get for it. :)

Thanks!
