I did this to make shorter lengths for around my hinges. I've also cut the 4 foot lengths (which I found impossible to snap on afer paying for shipping the things....). I used a PVC pipe cutter in this way:

1. Place the snap clamp over a short section of pipe (no need to have a full length of pipe inside, just about 2 in. where you want to cut the clamp). I used waste pieces of pipe I had accumulated from constructing my greenhouse.

2. Position the cutter so that the stationery half of the jaw comes around the clamp and just up to but not over the lip of the clamp. You can still cut it no matter how it's positioned, but this way you will not crush the lip of the clamp

3. Roll the clamp back into the jaw of the cutter and start racheting (if that's a word). The first or second press easily slices through the upper lip of the clamp without crushing it. As with cutting pipe, you have to work a little at getting a perfectly straight (or sort of straight) cut, but it works OK--certainly better than a hacksaw!
