Greenhouse material recommendations

Hi all, I live in the foothills of Los Angeles, with very mild winters and hot summers. I plan to convert a 12 foot by 16 foot garage into a greenhouse, basically by replacing the roof with panels. Had a few questions for anyone who has enjoyed, or despised, their greenhouse building experience.

1) Any recommendations for what material to use? So many choices... glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, corrugated vs. panels. And if you're happy with it, where did you buy it? Trying to do it on the cheap, but don't want to have to replace the roof within 3 years. Maybe that's not very realistic?

2) Does anyone in the Los Angeles area know of a greenhouse supply store? Lowes and Home Depot only have corrugated panels that have mixed reviews. I've searched online but nothing really came up.

3) I wasn't planning on installing any heating or cooling elements, since plants will be outside during summer and it stays pretty warm in winter. Is that a rookie mistake?

Thanks for your help!
