Standalone greenhouse or heat my garage?

Posted by newgen 9 California (My Page) on

Is it a good idea to hang some grow lights and provide heating in the garage or is it better, for the plants, to have a greenhouse? I understand that humidity control is much better with the greenhouse. How about heating? The greenhouse is much smaller than the garage, and the garage is obviously not well sealed at all, so will I be wasting heat & money trying to heat a garage?

Thanks,

RE: Standalone greenhouse or heat my garage?

On most days a greenhouse will generate plenty of heat during the day to require no supplimental heating unless you get a bunch of cloudy cold days, which I would assume you do not get many of those. You would mostly heat at night, and I bet it would be reasonable in cost in your climate You will need good ventilation controls. If you want to enjoy growing in a controled environment the greenhouse is the way to go. Have you ever worked in an area with high pressure sodium bulbs glowing. It is not a pleasant light to work under.
