Why not buy a systemic insecticide. Water the plant with it which will clear the soil and pot as well as it will be picked up into the plants vascular system and as any bugs feed they will be killed.

I'll be growing vegetables in them. Are there any safe systemic insecticides for such use?

When I was in college we always reused pots, thats what we were taught to do! I still do today. Here's what I do: I make a bleach to water solution in the sink and soak the pots for a while, then scrub them out, rinse them and let them air dry. (I have a slop sink in my greenhouse, which makes it easier) I have never had a pest problem (knock on wood). I personally think this is a safer alternative to using insecticides.

aphids are born alive and ready to reproduce. washing the pots should be ok. I wash all of mine and re use them.

when i get a aphid explosion, i hit them with neem oil and come back with azatin.I beleive azatin is concidered organic. So far it has worked everytime.

Right now i had a bad outbreak on some celery i have in the greenhouse. I was gone for a week and when i got back ,there they were in great numbers.

READ ALL THE LABELS!!! but look at Orthene and a new product from Bayer called Movento. It came out last year but we've not tried it yet; it sounded promising.
