probably dumb cold frame question

I have a pretty basic cold frame question. We just built one this year, primed plywood and plexiglass windows.

My goal is to keep greens going as long as possible here -- lettuce, kale, maybe even carrots. I have kale going pretty well, and probably naively, just put in lettuce seeds and carrot seeds two weeks ago, and then in the spring, start seedlings.

The lettuce seedlings are actually up. Haven't seen a carrot sprig yet.

My question is this: on temperate days like today, just below 50 degrees, should I have the frame open JUST in order to give the plants more light? Or does all of the light get through the plexiglass, and I should keep it closed most of the time?

I know I have to watch the temps on sunny days. I am monitoring the temps inside -- today, it's sunny and 40ish outside, and 60-ish inside the frame, so probably we have to do some more insulating for temperature. My question is more related to the light issue. Thanks for any guidance --
