looking for ideas for a trellis (see pics)

I am looking at providing a little more privacy from my neighbor. The existing plant is in need of a trellis to support it, so I was thinking of using some sort of wood structure, maybe attached to the wall behind it, to provide some more privacy as the plant grows.

I am wide open to any ideas you may have.

When you look at the picture you will see a huge mound of vines that is resting on a patio cover in my neighbors yard. The patio cover is going to have to be replaced at some point in the future, so the vines will not always be there. I would like whatever I put in to help block the view of my neighbors house once those vines are gone.

Home Depot has 1/2 in EMT conduit for mega, mega cheap. Check it out and turn on your creativity...

The west coast has been influenced by Spanish, Mission and far-eastern styles for decades - incorporated into either traditional, transitional or modern architecture. Seemingly everyone in Cal has at least some variation of these aesthetics in their yards. Have you looked at the resources available from local fence + pergola design/installation companies? Using one of their off-the-shelf designs could save you time and expense.

Otherwise, and if you have the means, consider contacting a local landscape architect for ideas. Your side yard looks charming and well deserving of some professional guidance.

Have you considered 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe and covering it with PVC lattice? You can buy the lattice in several colors and you can paint the pipe frame with plastic paint to match.
