| Does anyone have an idea what I could make a trellis out of? (recycled things) Years ago when I was renting I stapled fishing line all over the back of the house and the morning glories grew and covered the whole wall!! I now have my own home but don't want to put staple holes in it. Any ideas or pics would be great!! |

| We got a rusty old bedspring from the dump, leaned it against the house then grew scarlet runners on it. Called it a flower bed. Not for everyone, I suppose. |

| I am going to use some bamboo, I have to cut it but I live in California and it probably doesnt grow where it freeze to much below 32'...You can use some twigs that are thin and straight. I had many from a fruit tree that grew too large. I also use some welded wire that you put into cement to give it strenth. It is 4X6 feet and about 4'' or 6'' inch squares. It is heavey metal and I use it for grapes to grow up on. I got it from Home Depo in the cement dept. Also you can use string and a few nails. Oh sure now that you are buy a home you don't want to put nails and staples in it. LOL I paint houses and people who rent really put a dent in a place. I have sometimes found five or six holes in a house for cable each time a new company comes out to install a new cable. Anyway good luck to you. Bill C |

Thank you both for the ideas. I found another idea on this board too, wrap bird netting around the trunk of a tree. I have an old apple tree I could do this to (the ice really damaged it a few years ago). We use bamboo for the tomatoes. LOL about the staples billc! |

I bought a wooden easel at a garage sale for $3. Used a netting on the three sides and attached it with vinyl straps. Will grow sweetpeas on it this spring. trowelgal |

| Thanks, what great ideas! I also bought some bird netting and am going to wrap it around the trunk of our old apple tree (it needs sprucing up anyhow) and put a planter of vines at the bottom, I can't wait till next month to plant! |

| A salvaged folded wooden ladder makes a great trellis. I have also picked up pieces of lattice-work fencing on the curb and old metal & wooden fence gates. All make great trellis ideas and are thrifty to use in your garden. |

| I am actually thinking of re-using some old "baby gates" that i used inside to keep the dogs in the hallway - they won't be that but 3 feet tall, but they will still work! |
