Accidentally Broke Off Seedlings Only Leaves

Summer_Squash

One of my cucumber seedlings got dried out over the day while I was at school, and I watered it a lot, but one of it's two leaves did not survive. I tried to remove the dead leaf, and accidentally removed BOTH of the seedlings leaves, along with the tiny budding first true leaves that were coming it. I immediately attempted a repair, but it proved hard to re-attach without killing the budding of the first true leaves... which I thought to be counter intuitive. So I placed the seedling leaves in water, and kept the stem (just one lonely 3 inch stem...) in the soil.

What should I do to save the plant? If it doesn't make it, it's not the end of the world, but I am hopeful.

Thanks.
