I think we could use a few details:
Type of soil (poor, humid, composted, sandy...)
Exposure (sun, shade)
Do you want bushes, perennials or annuals?
Only foliage or flowers?
How tall can they go?

If there aren't any kids around(seeds are poisonous)... you could use caster bean plants, also moles will run for cover elsewhere . They start easily from seed and grow approx. 2 1/2 feet a month.
