| Hello guys,
I've been trying to germinate some seeds for more than 8 months with no results and I need help and assistance at this point.. Here is what I've done: First try: Seeds on a thermo with warm water for 48 hrs.. 8 months later.. no results. Second try: Same as before but with nicking.. no results.. Third try: Stratification implemented for 2 months on the freezer.. no results.. Forth try: 2 months on the freezer, 2 weeks room temperature, seed sanded down about 1/4 inch, will be in warm water in the next 48 hrs.. I don't know if it will work.. Am I doing something wrong?? Nothing works. I am trying to germinate Byrsonima Crassifolia, also known as Nance/Nanche/Crabo. Its a tropical tree, the seed is around 1/2 in. in diameter, very hard and very thick. I opened the one I used on my first try and the shell is impressively dense and so thick, around 4 mm thick all directions. I had to use sand paper with 100 grain to get to the core, while sanding non stop for 10 minutes. The core, compared to the seed, its 1/8 size. Any help is welcome!

| Searching for ~ " Byrsonima Crassifolia" scarification ~ I found one place that said " ... Byrsonima crassifolia germination was not successful in any of the treatments except for mechanical scarification by cracking which resulted in 40% germination ... ". |

| I believe I have been successful at germinating the nance seeds. I think I was just lucky. I have 2 of them. or is it something else? not 100 percent sure. I planted 16 nance seeds and got 2 to germinate. I froze them for about 3 months inside the shell, then I cracked them opened with a hammer. from about 50 nances I only got 16 seeds out because most of them cracked with the hammer even though I was very careful. I hope that helps you... I also have been trying for about a year to get a hold of a byrsonima crassifolia tree. |
