Diane, I have heard of hanging glue boards up for bats. One fellow duct taped them back-to-back, and hung them in his attic, with much success. One would think it would be less "messy" than the flypaper technique.
Squirrels can be a big problem also. A co-worker had major problems with them. I'll ask him how he got rid of them. I hope you have been able to stop the infiltration of those roof rats, and keep them happy with the bird feeders. Serge.

Please, please, please do not do this. There are techniques for safely excluding bats from your house that can be found on the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife page: http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/bats.html . Fly paper will kill these long-lived beneficial animals. Bats can eat up to 600-1,000 mosquitoes in an hour and can live for over 30 years. They are not rodents and only have one to two young per year meaning that every bat is important.

Bats are a protected species in many states, Michigan amongst them.

If you have bats in the attic, there are no poisons, repellents, or traps you can set to get rid of the bats in the attic. All bats have to be excluded through a one way door. Also the rest of the home should be bat proofed. Al openings 3/8" or larger should be sealed.

If you want to get rid of squirrels in the atic, set RAt traps with peanut butter.Tie a wire to the rat trap so that it will stay in that one spot when you go to get it.

I don't care how beneficial these nasty creatures are! I'm terrified of them and several of them have gotten into my house and into my bedroom at night where I sleep To me they are rats with wings!

This thread lives on almost 10 years of the original post so I thought I'd jump in and ad some value.

1) If you are reading this and thinking, "Hmmm glue you say? Great idea!" Put the hard hat down and the crazy glue, your going to hurt somebody. Glue is a bad idea for a number of reasons....

a. Bat's are a protected species in most states. New Jersey strong encourages residents to not use glue paper and in Michigan they will fine you (as with many other states).

b. It doesn't solve the issue! If you have bats showing up in your home for the course of several decades, it will become a recurring issue. How often do you want gramp's climbing up in the attic?

c. Eventually you have to sell the house. It will become a problem in the selling process. Trust me!

Ok so how do we have a lasting change here? How do you stop getting bat's to get in your house? Well here are a few answers.

1) Get a bat house. They are cheap to purchase and can create an alternative home for these friendly critters.

2) Get a bat removal company that has good reviews and stand behind their work. Preferably with a warranty. Because bats get in small places and roost all over the attic. See this video bellow...

3) Do it yourself.

From top to bottom. Look for any whole 3/4'' or larger and use clear caulk as well as sealing all other areas you can find. Put up a video camera and see if you can find the entry points.
