If I remember right, I don't think brads come in nail lengths of more than 1 or 1 1/4", which isn't long enough to nail molding, unless it's very thin.

Brad nailer for baseboard, Finish nailer - preferably with an angled magazine to get into tight spaces, for crown molding and thicker stock.

I've also used my 16ga finish nailer for light duty framing arount the house and shop.

My DuoFast brad nailer only goes to 1.25 inch nails.

For trim you want a finish nailer.
If you are buying your first pneumatic nailer and do a lot of work at the bench get a brad nailer- it's great for tacking glue ups.
Just remember you are trading the tendonitis of swinging a hammer for a puncture wound sometime in the future.:)

My Puma brad nailer holds up to 2" brads.
Dependes on the nailer.

A good quailty Brad nailer such as a DeWalt can be gotten that uses 2" brads. A DeWalt Crown Stapler can be gotten that uses up to 2 1/2".

Either one, brad or finish nailer will work fine for nailing baseboard trim, crown molding, etc.

The main differences between the two nailers is. Brads do not have a head like a finish nail and will be less visible when used.

Most base boards today is about 1/2" or less thick. And if that is your case. You will have no problems using 1 1/4" long brads or finish nails. For you will have 1/2" through the base board, 1/2" through the drywall and 1/4" into the stud or the walls floor plate. depending on the height of the base board.

A finish nailer is what you want for crown molding and window / door trim. It's heavier, thicker stock. Brad nailers are fine for glue-ups, quarter-round molding and very light trim. Brad nailers are less expensive as well.

I use my 23 gauge pin nailer and trim caulk to hang crown. The hole is so small it doesnt need filled-my first layer of paint will usually make these disappear. The only hassle is the calk-however for smaller jobs (bathrooms and closets) I have had decent luck hanging the crown sans caulk then laying a fine bead along the top and bottom edges.

If you do get a pin nailer, get one that shoots at least 1 1/4". I am using the bostich (119.00), but wish I had a model with a rubber tip some days...
