Mortar mixer and Concrete mixer speeds

I'm thinking of building a small concrete mixer
and building a small mortar mixer.
I used to own a concrete mixer but sold it.
Didn't think I would ever have use for one again.
How fast does a concrete mixer turn (RPMs).
How fast do the paddles in a mortar mixer turn (RPMs).
I can't afford to buy these items.
But I'm good at scrounging up materials.
And I thought it would be fun to see if I could make them.
I got lots of pullys and axels and bearings and electric motors.
I just need to make the structures. And get the RPMs correct.

I suggest watching both in action and with a stop watch, you should be able to get an approx count on RPM. Mike |

RPM's will be dependent on Barrel size for a barrel mixer...............slow is better. An Auger mixer ive used has an auger rotation of around 45 RPM of the Auger The idea is to mix thoroughly but not to force too much air into the mix thereby weakening the concrete or morter in the case of Brick Mud. Go look at a new one and measure the sprocket sizes & Tooth count for a jumping off point if you are going to make a home made mixer............or, you could always go find a high school kid and show him how to chop mud with a mud hoe in a wheel barrow if the project is small or if a large sidewalk type project will be spread out over time :o) |
