I have a Sears Craftsman Portable Generator Set 7.8hp 4200 Watt.

Model # on engine recoil cover -- Craftsman 580.329140
Serial # 7434819
It is used i'm trying to get it running and i'm not getting much of a spark. It seems to be very weak. I made the mistake of taking it apart before i changed the spark plug. Let me back up for a moment. I work on a boat and i come home every other 2 weeks. I also have a really horrible memory. I performed some tests last time i was home and found the compression good, a weak spark and she wouldn't start. I picked up a new spark plug unfortunately i forgot to put it in before i pulled the flywheel off. I thought it had points but it has an electronic ignition. I previously sanded down the coil fins and the edge of the flywheel. still no spark. Is there a way to check/test to see if the coil is good? Any other thoughts?

Not real familiar with these, but it's a Generac made unit according to the OM.
Engine is a Generac EHC 04276.

You might look for a kill wire to the coil and check that for any shorts to ground.
Use a business card to set the air gap between the coil & flywheel.

If that doesn't work, you probably need a new coil.

Hopefully, someone that actually works on these can chime in.
