Chamberlain remote only works INSIDE garage!

I have a 2001 Chamberlain GDO and am having problems with the remote (I've tried changing the battery as well as just buying a new remote)& it's driving me insane! The remote will not work if I'm anywhere in front of the garage door (which is metal, btw). I know it's not the GDO because the door opens every single time if I'm inside the garage or even from INSIDE THE HOUSE, but WILL NOT work if I am in front of the garage door. Please help - I am at my wits' end!

    If I'm not mistaken there is a sensitivity adjustment on the unit, try that.

    Not familiar with your brand of GDO, but my Genie has a short antenna wire that hangs down in front of the unit. I once accidently folded the wire up into the light cover after changing a bulb, and my remote would work only within about 10 - 12 feet. When I freed up the antenna, range returned to about 30 - 40 feet.
