Troy Bilt Horse Rototiller is leaking gear oil

My troy bilt horse rototiller (purchased in 1978) is leaking gear oil after use. The gear oil comes out of what I refer to as the "breather" (not sure what the term is) on top of the gear case. I brought it to the dealer and he said that the plug was unavailable due to the age of the tiler. What can I do? Any suggestions? Thanks.

That likely is a breather, the gear case could be over filled. Is there a plug on the side of the case about halfway up? If so with the machine sitting level put a can under it and remove the plug. When oil stops running install the plug.
