Tube breather on flat-panel air cleaner

Hi, guys. This is on a big B&S engine driving a MacKissic shredder. The piece, about 5-6" long is a black vinyl tube, with two gentle bends at either end and it keeps coming out. I'm wondering how essential this is and also if anyone has advice about getting it locked into the air cleaner housing. The end that goes into that housing is somewhat degraded and I assume it's meant to be a friction fit, since I see no clips or whatever. Thanks. Gary

Not familar with what you explaining, but when comparing it to some of my engines I think it crank case vent tube to suck any crank case gases into the carb. for reburning? If you don't want to get new hose you may try super glue or some type of sticky sealent (High temp RTV) to hold it in place

Thanks for the reply, rc. That may be it. The B&S parts list shows a gasket, which is missing. Right now I'm trying to glue it in as you suggested. Gary
