lawn edger pull cord stuck

I have a weed eater gas lawn edger that I'm ready to pitch. First the fuel lines were leaking (it's about 15 years old, so no surprise there). I replaced the main fuel line and it ran, but then the primer line leaked and the mower stopped running, though I'm not sure why this would cause it to stop.
I picked up some new fuel lines and replaced them, but now the starter cord will not pull, as in, it's stuck. I tried taking the spark plug out, but it still doesn't budge.
the blade turns easily by hand.
I'm debating whether to go out and buy the torx tools I'll need to get the pull cord assembly off or just start over with a new edger. If the engine is seized, there's no point in spending any more time on it.
I only use it a once a year or so.
