I'm finally getting off my butt and having a transfer switch installed so I can pick-up an emergency generator for the stormy winter months here in NewEngland. I can't take another multi-day event without power .. not only is it cold and dark when that happens, but we have a grinder pump in the basement, so I can't even answer nature's call during the outage! :-)

I want to have an external outlet installed as well, so I can simply plug-in and go. As a newbie though, I was wondering if there is a minimum 'safe distance' to position the generator away from the house, to prevent CO from entering for example? I don't have a garage, but with a walk-out basement that is far from being 'air tight', I'm a bit concerned.
