I have an old Troy Built tiller S/N 511978 with a Tecumseh XL Cast Iron and im trying to find what year and model...Big Red, Horse etc. Hoping Someone can help. Thanks

Can you engage and disengage the rear tines with a lever on the left side? That feature started around 1983.

12/1980 the XL engine was on Big Red Tillers. You can use Horse for Tiller parts engine pulley have bigger inside size for larger crankshaft sizes. The 8hp and 10hp engine made them Big reds. You need to run Depth Gage in third notch so save engine from over tilting and having dry cylinder no oil.

That info for engine not serial number of Tiller number should be on right top transmission housing 6 digit number.
