putting an echo pas hedge attachment on an echo srm-210

I went into an Echo dealership here in Sacramento, CA and inquired about an Echo SHC-212. I told the dealer that I had just purchased an Echo SRM-210 from him about 2 years ago and I was tired of using my hand held hedge clippers. I wanted to get into a gas powered hedge trimmer, but I wanted something with some length because I have tall bushes. I told the dealer that I trim my bushes back about 5 times a year so the Hedge Trimmer would not be used much. I told him maybe I should have got something in the Echo PAS series in the first place , that way I would just have to buy the attachment. The dealer told me that I could still just buy the PAS Hedge Trimmer attachment and loosen the three bolts that hold the gearbox to the shaft, remove my Trimmer head on my SRM-210 then attach the PAS Hedge Trimmer to my SRM-210 shaft and use it like that. He said Echo would not recommend it, and of course when I called Echo, the lady on the phone didn't think it would work because of different shaft sizes and cables. The dealer said Echo would not want to be responsible if people messed up the screws on their heads. I would like to hear some opinions from the experts on this site. Thank you. By the way I am probably going to get a used SHC-212 on E-bay.

Your SRM210 will work just fine with the hedge trimmer attachment. We do this all the time for customers in your situation. You may find that power is lacking if you push it so keep it slow and let the machine do the job.

And keep it sharp too.

I hope you are getting the articulate one, particularly you are going to get the SHC-212 soon. Don't seem like you need the SHC-212 if you go this route because you already have a regular hedge trimmer.

If you really want to get a short reach hedge trimmer eventually, maybe do what I did....I bought a Shindaiwa M242 with short articulate hedge attachment. This way you can get other attachments like a cultivator, pole saw etc.

I went into my Echo dealership today to purchase the Hedge Trimmer attachment and was told that this would wear out the clutch on my SRM-210 and now was advised against my original plan. Apparently the clutch used on this model is not as heavy as the ones on the other models. Should I sell my Echo SRM-210, go over to the Stihl attachment series because they have an all steel shaft on their attachment series, or buy an Echo SRM-230 or 265 then proceed with the plan? Any professional opinions?

So why would the hedge trimmer attachment be particularly hard on the SRM clutch and not so on the SHC212? Often clutches wear out because the machine is not operated at full throttle which we see frequently with hedge trimmers. The clutch depends on speed to firmly engage and not slip.

The guy must be trying to sell you a trimmer!!!

If you really going to sell your SRM210 which I don't think is good idea, I would still consider Echo PAS. Particular if you can still get the 230 or the 260 with Tornado engine.

I bought a Shindaiwa M242 with articulate hedge attachment. I love it. I have the short reach version which work just as well on all the occation where a regular hedge trimmer are called for. Shindaiwa is the only one that have short reach articulate hedge attachment beside Husqvarna.

Well, I purchased the Echo PAS articulate hedge trimmer attachment and the owner of the shop put it on my SRM-210. He said he wanted to inspect my clutch for wear prior to installation. I used it on the bushes around my house and it worked beautifully. Man, that chore went so much easier and way faster. I didn't feel any problems with the machine. I sprayed the blade with WD-40 and then went to town. The owner of the shop said to use Simple Green to clean it. This worked out pretty good for the occasional bush trimmer. Thank you guys for your help and advise.

Good for you. I think you did the right thing. I use Fluid Film, work pretty good.
