stihl string trimmer dies

hi all,
looking for some advice.

i have a stihl string trimmer. i've been using it to do the lawn edging. this requires holding the trimmer in an upright vertical position. everytime i do this, the motor wants to and does die. i have to keep throttling to keep it from dying, not always successful. i filled the gas tank up full and it didn't help.

any thoughts?
thanks for your help...

RE: stihl string trimmer dies

Maybe the fuel pickup in the tank is faulty, not following the fuel by gravity as it should. Empty the fuel tank and see what's going on in there. Trimmers should work in any attitude, but it might be different for a 4-cycle one.
