Have you looked on ebay? There are quite a few.

I would fill the gearbox with heavy oil and then test it for a few minutes to see if it works OK. I realize that running the auger, in the off season, with no snow available, is less than a perfect test. However, you might be able to hear the gearbox in operation, if the internal gears are defective. Why do you think that there are "rusted together parts?" If I recall correctly, the internal gearing is made of bronze.

Dealer says what will be rusted together is not the gear case but the feeder rotation assembly that has to be removed to get to the gearbox.

Most likely your gearbox is similar and might even have the same damage.

I dont want to see it dry again? Dry of what? gear lub? If so IMO that was the cause of the failure? I would take baymee lead! take it apart find out what's bad and replace it. Looks like he gave you some excellent photo's to start in addition to the IBP and probably Utube video's.

Don't look that complicated. For future pre-ventive maintenance I would rethink or review equipment routine maintenance schedule on ALL of your machines... Snow blowers set around like tillers most of the time review your initial start up procedures to see if the gear failure could be avoided or reduced, But IMO that don't mean they don't need servicing before seasonally use especially when water (equates to rust when setting for months) is involved.

Is there an ARIENS REAR TINE TILLER 6 HP SUBARU ENGINE that possibly uses the same gearbox? A friend purchased this tiller used that was in warranty not knowing the warranty was not transferable. The gearbox is giving him trouble related to getting into gear vs a loss of oil that I know of. He was told that it could be repaired but time consuming.

At least the box w/n a sealed gearbox (as a Honda maybe). I ground the weld to open, to see the problem but not to find a part source.
