Try putting epoxy in there like what is used on axe and sledge hammer handles.

Good Pic! Why not drill a 1" or smaller hole from the bottom and drive a wedge in as in a hammer or etc? What was the intended method of keeping it tight from the factory? loger

The tamper head is solid iron(?) - we can't drill it.
From the factory, I imagine just the tightness of the wood handle was meant to hold it. It's very old, so I guess time has just dried out the wood, and made it loosen.

Hubby will try the epoxy to fix it.

Small steel wedges should work between the handle and steel from the top almost as well. Epoxy is usually thick which will be a challenge to inject good. Good Luck! loger

I would only use epoxy if the handle could be removed so the socket can be filled with epoxy and then the handle replaced. Otherwise, it would be hard to get enough in there to hold the handle.
