can I use metal sharpening rod to sharpen Felco shears?

I just went online, and it says to use a sharpening stone to sharpen Felco shears. I don't have a sharpening stone, but I do have a metal sharpening rod that I use for kitchen knives. Could I use that or must I really get a stone?

Sharpening anything is more technique than anything else. I have an assortment of tools and it depends on how bad of shape the tool is in as to what tool I use. In some cases I will glue very fine high quality sandpaper to a shape I want to use, but be careful, you can ruin an edge quicker than you can repair one.

I do it all the time with my scissors.
