Need to get John Deere 250Ga String trimmer running !

Hi ALL!

I got this John Deere 250Ga String Trimmer a few years ago for like $5.00 @ a Tag Sale! I actually got it going then, soon as I found the tiny ON/OFF switch ! This is a commercial trimmer, with really thick line, two big handles and one of those back pack things to strap it on you !

I'm trying to get it going again,but having a hard time. I get fuel. I see that it comes right up from the tank. Just how do I check spark when your pulling on that cord ??

Any help would be great !!!

If you have a Harbor Freight in your area, get a (cheap) spark tester thet will verify you have spark and under compression that is not there at times. Otherwise, rem the plug from the cyl, with it connected to the plug wire, start in on position, pull starter rope while the plug is touching metal by the plug hole and you should see the plug sparking at the ground to electrode. Try a known good plug from a working engine if needed.

It might take two to test, or use test leads (wire) with alligator clips w/o extra help. Good Luck!

Hi Loger.
SO, I don't get any spark. Used known good plug, no spark from JD. It uses a ignition pack I think. Is there a way of checking that ? It so old I can't find a part # for thisignition thing, anybody have a manual ??
