Craftsman Hydro Rider 15.5 Briggs won't start, bad ground?

I was on the mower and it shut off. After some trouble shooting, I noticed no spark. I disconnected the black ground that was grounding out the magneto and not letting spark get to the plug. It runs now but when I turn the key off it takes a few seconds to shut down, kins sputters out. Any ideas? Is the kill switch messed up?

For a while I have had the seat rigged up so I can get off and the engine won't shut off. PRetty much took the springs out of it and tightened the bolts to hold down the plunger in the seat. Could that be messing with it?

Just remembered, it shouldn't be the rigged up seat plunger because I am getting power. It turns over like crazy just no spark. Then I disconnect the black ground and it starts right up. If it was the seat plunger rig that was no good the engine wouldn't even turn over.

Some seat switches, including mine, only short out the spark. Since it apparently starts and runs fine with the "Kill Wire" disconnected, that tells you the problem is in the wiring. The reason it takes awhile to die when you turn off the switch is because it is dropping current to the carb solenoid and which takes a few seconds to take affect.

Reactivate your seat switch since it is not lawful to deactivate it anyway.
