John Deere 455

I just recently bought a 455 John Deere. I have an older 455 with 1300 hours and this one has only 400 hours. My older one did not shut the pto off when I backed up. This one does. Is this normal on a newer 455? I didn't think they started that feature until later model numbers.

I don't know exactly when the RIO was introduced but it sounds like the RIO at work.

To mow in reverse on a JD you have to disengage the PTO, then pull up on the PTO switch and then you can mow in reverse. as soon as you stop or go forward you must go through the RIO procedure again.

If that procedure works then you have the RIO.

Yes it sounds like that is what it is. And it is a royal pain. I do a lot of backing up when blowing snow and mowing.

Not sure about yours but mine is a 1997, I just unhooked the switch underneath the seat, 400 hours is low hours, That's a good find.
