Did you adjust the valves with the piston 1/4" past TDC?

Check to see that both push rods and rocker arms are moving and moving about the same amount. There has been a rash of these engines that were put out with cam shafts that the cam lobes were not properly hardened and they are wearing down. Also, look for cracks in rocker arms.

Do you know why the push rod bent in the first place? The valve guide has been coming part way out in some of these also causing the valve spring retainer to hit it and bend push rod. You may want to check that the new push rod isn't bent now also.

I have repaired 3 of these engines in the last year with bad or soft cam shafts, just like walt2002 stated above.
