15.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine won't stay running

My engine is on a MTD riding lawn mower. I couldn't get it to start, and gas kept leaking out. I replaced the carburetor, fuel filter, and spark plug. Now it starts, but through out white smoke, and the engine keeps racing up and down for about 30 seconds or so until it dies out.

Probably your crankcase is full of gasoline, drain the oil and see what comes out. The refill to correct level with some sae 30 oil.

It would help if you told us WHERE the gas was leaking out.

On a troy bilt Pony riding lawnmower. What is the function of the electric solenoid valve which is screwed into the bottom of the carburator?

Current engines are set to run so lean that the solenoid is added to the bottom of carb to shut off gas to main metering jet to prevent "After Fire" due to lean mix.

NOTE: This does not shut off gas to the float bowl as many think.
