I also have a large ZTR, has a roll bar. I suspect that on large ZTRs roll bars they are for looks, or for lawyers. The decks on these mowers are very heavy, near impossible to roll the machine.

The Ferris is about the same size as some of the homeowner grade ZTs. Mine has but a 44" deck.

The whole machine has a much heavier build than the homeowner grade. It weighs 975 pounds!

I kind of know for a fact that my ZTR does not want to roll. Confession: It slid down an embankment (with me on it) last season. Probably a 20 degree slide. The grass was very wet. Just went too fast around the corner. Only damage was the blades hit some rocks.

Small ZTRs might roll, but I don't think that mine would.

Were you heading directly down the hill or sideways?

Not having had a ZT before, I am not sure of its capabilities on hills. Do I go up and down or sideways?

tombob, slide was sideways.

Probably safest way to mow a hill (if you have to) is going directly up it. Going down is OK too, as long as you can stop.
